Blueboard is an employee recognition platform that allows your company to reward their employees to fun and memorable experiences, in lieu of traditional offerings like cash, gift cards or company swag.
We are the first and only company focused purely on experiences as employee rewards. No one works with as many top companies or understands the benefits that experiences have on employees like we do. Read more about the effects of Blueboard experiences on our Blog.
Imagine you're an engineer, and you just reached an important milestone for a new product. You receive a $200 AMEX gift card as a reward for your hard work. You spend the gift card on a grocery run and a new pair of shoes. Over time the bonus you earned becomes forgettable and you can't remember how you spent it. Enter Blueboard - milestone hit, Blueboard reward delivered. Our engineer decides to try surfing lessons, something he's always wanted to do, but never carved out the time for. Eventually surfing becomes his new passion and a part of his personal core. This is the power of Blueboard. We push your employees to try new things so they can thrive both inside and outside of the office.
Have you ever wanted to concoct the perfect mojito? Or jump from a plane at 13,000 feet? Maybe learn the subtleties of preparing delicious Thai cuisine? From cooking, skydiving, and mixology to yoga, kiteboarding, painting, and boxing, Blueboard has something for everyone and we're always growing our rewards catalog. Check out more offerings within our gifts for employees section.
Simply complete the Request Demo form and tell us a little about your goals. We'd love to connect and understand how Blueboard could improve your employees' engagement and overall company culture.
While we've been known to onboard partners within two business weeks, a lot is dependent on your goals, company size, and aligning on a succinct and successful onboarding plan. We're not afraid to hustle and work hard to meet your internal deadlines while prioritizing a flawless program launch.
The sky's the limit, and totally dependent on what business objectives you are aiming to achieve with Blueboard. Clients use Blueboard as a SPIFF or bonus platform (when a certain goal is met for sales or engineering), as a benefits platform (for employee of the month, tenure awards), for team events and offsites, employee referral bonuses, or even customer appreciation gifts. We're flexible to accommodate your needs, but generally more rewards and experiences are better than less!
Currently, large gatherings and team events are not something Blueboard offers. Blueboard experiences are designed to be meaningful employee rewards. They're personal and customizable for the individual recipient—something they can experience solo or share with their friends and family.
Born and operating in San Francisco, California, but servicing customers nationwide and throughout their international satellite office.

Each work anniversary—from year 1 on—is a critical moment in the employee experience. They provide a unique opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to your people for their energy and dedication, and for continuing to lend their talents to your organization. That’s why we recommend starting to send anniversary awards on year 1 of an employee’s tenure, and annually after that.
Sometimes! Tangible awards for length-of-service, e.g., a five-year anniversary award, are not considered employee income if the value of the award does not exceed limits specified in the Internal Revenue Code—and are therefore tax exempt. You can find these limits and learn more about the nuances around reward taxation in this blog post.
Design your employee anniversary award program to be as shareable as possible! There are many ways to accomplish this: ask your leadership team to celebrate anniversaries at all-hands meetings, recognize these milestones in company newsletters or emails, and encourage employees to share their award experience on social media. This type of socialization generates more buzz around your program and gets other employees inspired to hit their tenure milestones as well! Blueboard rewards don’t expire, which means your people can use them whenever they want. Note: If you, as an Admin, want to set expiration dates, we’re happy to accommodate that in our platform.

Yes! Blueboard Anniversary Engine currently integrates with AzureAD, BambooHR, CyberArk, Okta, Rippling, Google, JumpCloud, Workday, OneLogin, and SCIM Generic 1.1 and Generic 2.0.
These integrations mean Platform Admins can automatically feed employee data—including employee name, email, and work hire date—into Blueboard Anniversary Engine, eliminating the need for manual upload or maintenance of your employee roster within the Blueboard platform.
Yes. Blueboard rewards have a monetary value, which means most government tax agencies, like the IRS in the US, require taxes to be paid on them. As to who pays, we feel that it’s best if the employer pays the tax, using an accounting technique called “grossing up” to calculate the payment to the rep. For more detailed information check out this blog on employee reward taxation.
While we continue to listen to our clients and evolve our product, Blueboard does not currently have leaderboard functionality. Our platform enables organizations to reward and incentivize employees with experiences; our incentive features allow incentive program participants to browse and select an experience to work toward from our curated menus. This tool also allows participants to redeem a reward they’ve earned from an incentive program for either the experience they selected at program kickoff or different experience from the value bucket experience menu.
Employees who earn a Blueboard reward will be notified by email. From there, they can log into our website where they can redeem for their choice of top-tier experiences at home, in their local city, or abroad. Once they select an experience, our Concierge team works one-on-one with the employee to plan and schedule their event. Check out this quick video for more information on the recipient experience.
Award recipients must click on a non-editable waiver checkbox to redeem their reward. Once a recipient finds the experience they want to try, and before they can book, recipients must opt in and sign a booking liability waiver. Recipients sign by checking a box that acknowledges awareness of any rules and risks. This automated agreement is built into the Blueboard platform––and is a legally binding contract between the recipient and your organization––which is an additional layer of legal protection. Admins can also add an additional, customized liability waiver into their Blueboard system. Learn more about how Blueboard addresses liability when rewarding with experiences.
Blueboard rewards don’t expire, which means sellers can use them whenever they want. Note: If you, as an Admin, want to set expiration dates, we’re happy to accommodate that in our platform.

Since these rewards have a monetary value, most government tax agencies, such as the IRS in the U.S., require taxes to be paid on them. As to who pays, we encourage all of our clients to cover the tax using an accounting technique called “grossing up” to ensure employees have the best possible reward experience. Start with this recap from one of our favorite webinars, “How Your Values Come to Life During Uncertain Times”. Your company values serve as the foundation for your employee experience. Your values help unite teams through shared language, provide focus when things feel out of control, and serve as a standard for success. Strong values don’t just help companies survive ever-changing conditions, they also empower your people to adapt and thrive. Hear expert panelists walk through their own company values and share how they’re adapting during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Company values awards are significant achievements, so we encourage celebrating across a variety of communication channels. Announce winners at a company all-hands meeting. Circulate details through a company newsletter, or other public office spaces, like your office lobby TV screens or break room message boards. And don’t forget to integrate your Blueboard account with Slack or Microsoft Teams to continue the celebrations around the digital water cooler.
We recommend getting nominations from across your entire company. This will help you build program engagement and means more people will be considered. Make sure your final evaluation criteria is visible and equitable, and select your winners with care.
Our team will serve as your trusted guide—we’ll share industry comp standards and a custom program planning guide (budget calculator) so you can easily plan your onboarding gifts budget. With a variety of reward levels starting at $150, there’s flexibility to welcome new hires in the way that best suits your budget.
We make it easy to connect your Blueboard account with Slack or Microsoft Teams to facilitate conversations and to bond employees around the digital water cooler. Simply create a dedicated channel for Blueboard buzz and opt to push reward activities into the channel to spark connection. You can automate notifications when rewards are sent, redeemed, or publish Recognition Stories.
We sure do! We’ve built a one-stop-shop inspiration hub for hybrid work. You’ll get best practices from companies making the transition and learn about the important role that employee recognition plays in bonding distant teammates. Get program inspiration and tips for setting your recognition programs up for success in our new normal.
